About

The increasing global momentum to address antimicrobial resistance is truly inspiring. Across the globe, hundreds of dedicated individuals are tirelessly working to protect people, animals, and the environment from the threat of drug-resistant diseases.

EUJAMRAI2, the second edition of the European Joint Action on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections, emerges with the ambitious goal of changing the world’s approach to antimicrobial resistance through a One Health perspective. Building on the success of its inaugural edition (2017-2021), the European Union has made an unprecedented investment in the second edition, EU-JAMRAI 2, firmly believing that collaborative efforts among the union’s 30 member countries will elevate Europe as a beacon of best practices.

Over the course of 48 months, commencing on January 1st, 2024, more than 120 partners spanning 30 countries, supported by approximately 40 stakeholders, are actively engaged in this joint action. European institutions such as ECDC and EFSA, alongside global bodies including WHO, WOAH, OECD, UNEP, and FAO, contribute their expertise to enrich discussions and ensure alignment with existing initiatives. Furthermore, professionals in human, animal, and environmental health, as well as patient representatives, play integral roles in this collective effort.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

Provide direct and sizable support to help MS in the development and the update of their NAP on AMR

Support the wider uptake of state-of-the-art IPC for both community-acquired and healthcare-associated infections, as well as AMS strategies in various settings

Strengthen the responsiveness and coordination of health systems to protect people from AMR in the Union

Increase awareness and understanding of AMR across Europe

Promote the One Health approach

Provide continuity and further uptake of the policy recommendations from EU-JAMRAI 1

Our mission at EU-JAMRAI 2 is to lead the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through joint and coordinated action across Europe. We are committed to promoting interdisciplinary collaboration among countries, institutions, and sectors, to safeguard the effectiveness of antimicrobials and protect public health, now and in the future.

Vision

We envision a future where antimicrobial resistance is a minimal concern in Europe and beyond. We see a European community where prevention, early detection, and effective management of antimicrobial resistance are key priorities at all levels of healthcare, from primary care to hospital settings and beyond. We are committed to driving innovation, education, and public awareness to effectively tackle this global public health challenge, thus ensuring a safer and healthier future for generations to come.
