Surveys for improving the Infection Control programs in Europe

The initial idea of the WP6.1 is based on the global acceptance that the implementation of the Infection Control requires a holistic approach and the commitment of all the stakeholders of the organization. Additionally, we must have in mind that the Infection Control Pyramid (hospital managers, infection control committees and health professionals) acts in different countries, healthcare systems and in completely different cultures. Independently of the healthcare structure and resources, the organizational as well as the health professional behavior have arisen as key factors for the effective implementation of Infection Control. So we need to know more about both the administrative and health professional behavior in the European countries and create tools to promote the implementation of the key components of Infection Control in healthcare environment.

In the frame of the WP.6.1 implementation two surveys (A,B) are going to be performed from March to May 2018:

The aim of  survey A is to determine the necessary institutional structure and resources for the implementation of efficient and feasible infection control programs in healthcare settings according to the most recent guidelines for the core components of infection prevention and control programs.

The aim of survey B is to examine and analyze the barriers (attitudes, level of training, lack of awareness, etc) to an effective implementation of an infection control program in clinical reality, which are mainly linked to the institutional policy and organizational behavior. This survey aims to determine the factors that influence the culture of the organization regarding the infection control and the effective implementation of an infection control program.

Structured questionnaires are targeted to the following groups:

1. Public Health Officers
2. Hospital Administrators
3. Members of Infection Control Committees (ICCs)
4. Health Professionals
