In June 22, the exhibition “Sketching Antimicrobial Resistance” opened in Reykjavík on display stands along Austurstræti. The exhibit is part of the international awareness campaign on antimicrobial resistance and the vital need to preserve antibiotic effectiveness for future generations.
Thirty artists, including the Icelandic Hugleikur Dagsson, use creative and visual works to explore antimicrobial resistance and its impact on public health, communities, and ecosystems around the world. By making this complex subject more accessible to the public, the artists highlight the crucial need to protect antibiotic efficacy for the future.
This summer, the works will be displayed on outdoor stands along Austurstræti, offering passersby a chance to step away from their daily routines and experience the exhibit in public life. The Director of Health and the Chief Epidemiologist are leading the campaign in Iceland.

Antimicrobial resistance is an escalating global crisis and ranks among the greatest public health threats the world faces today.
Iceland participates in EU-JAMRAI 2, the European Joint Action on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections and the exhibit on Austurstræti is part of a broader and multiplatform international campaign.
