Behaviour-based strategies for IPC workshop held in Helsinki

Our colleagues from the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare have organised a three-day workshop to design behavior-based strategies for preventing healthcare-associated infections in the framework of EU-JAMRAI 2.

The participants had the privilege of working with leading experts in behaviour change and culture.

Days 1 & 2 were expertly facilitated by Dr Fabiana Lorencatto, Dr Lucy Porter, and Dr Elise Coyton from the UCL Centre for Behaviour Change – home of the COM-B model and the Behaviour Change Wheel. Their deep expertise guided the application of behaviour change science to real-world IPC challenges in healthcare systems.

On Day 3, Egbert Schram from The Culture Factor Group led an insightful session on aligning interventions with national and organisational culture – a critical factor in ensuring success and sustainability.

Participants from 13 countries, including public health professionals, IPC experts, and researchers, came well prepared: each team had identified a priority IPC behaviour and gathered behavioural insights from their local settings. During the workshop, they began translating this evidence into tailored intervention plans – work that will continue and be refined in their own teams over the coming months.

Huge thanks to everyone who brought their expertise, energy, and passion. It’s inspiring to see such collaboration, and commitment to improving IPC across Europe.
